English Language Learners Host World Cultural Night

The School District of Washington recently held its second World Cultural Night at Washington West Elementary.

Several of the students in the ELL (English Language Learners) program shared informational power points or projects on their culture. Some of students also demonstrated and played cultural games with the guests.

Families had several local resources and services to visit with, including the Washington Public Library, Parents as Teachers, YMCA Adult Literacy Program, and the Human Rights Task Force for Franklin County.

The ELL Department and Human Rights Task Force had several school related items that were raffled off.

Each family brought a traditional food from their native country and recipe to share.

The school district provided pizza and the cultural food was shared buffet style.

It was a lively event with students proudly sharing their traditional dress with one another. The message of the night was one of acceptance.
